Black River Studios

a game studio by Samsung Electronics

Black River Studios is a game studio in Manaus, Brazil, founded in 2013. Its goal is to deliver highly creative and polished digital experiences for Samsung device users and beyond.

It is Samsung’s first standalone game studio. Within Samsung’s HQ game team, I defined its vision and roadmap, aiming at non-profit creative contents production.

I kickstarted the studio by recruiting 30+ amazing game dev specialists from Brazil, US and UK over a year, including on-site interviews. I also supervised a couple of productions as executive producer.

40 people locally
Platforms: Android, Gear VR
Genre: First person puzzle… shooter
Engine: Unity 3D

Finding Monsters Adventure is an Alice in Wonderland-like story in which the player uses his mobile or VR device as a camera to take funny pictures of facetious monsters.

As executive producer, I supervised the project kick-off in 2014-2015. The pre-production featured a game jam and multiple prototypes, then refined around the camera puzzle concept.

The project showcases the talent of the fully staffed team and the experience acquired using Unity on previous projects.

Finding Monsters Adventure entered full production in 2015 and was released in October 2015 on Google Play.

Released in 2014
Platform: Android
Genre: Runner
Engine: Unity 3D

Galaxy 11 Invasion is a tie-in game for Samsung’s marketing campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Thirteen famous soccer players run to save the Earth, with boss battles and parkour twists.

It was the first project of the studio that ramped up to 30 people locally during the 8-month development.

As the remote executive producer on the project, I acted as director until
adequate recruitment, supervising game design, art and technical direction.
