Boxey Boxers

by Fab

Boxey Boxers is a mobile online brawler. It features a cast of whacky boxers inspired by boxing legends, in 1 vs 1 realtime matches.

Its first purpose is to offer a new take on mobile game: a deep online fighting game with controls adapted to mobile rather than a virtual joystick.

Boxey Boxers offers advanced vs fighting mechanics (guard breaks, combos, dual HP system, projectiles, distance control, recovery & punish…), yet accessible with references such as Smash Bros or Dragon Ball Fighter Z (auto-combos, no mixups, items & stage hazards…).

Its topdown view takes roots in games such as Zelda a Link to the Past or Clash Royale, and aims at making the best use of a phone screen ratio, with square battle rings that are also used as canvas for touch input.

Boxey Boxers is an ongoing hobby project without any precise release schedule that I use for my own training in coding, design and art.

I’ve produced a major party of the 3d art, including animations and VFX, with the help of talented friends for a few specific elements (music notably).

I’ve also taken care of the whole design, from controls to progression, AI to characters skills and balance. The original design stems from the desire of making a proper mobile action game without any virtual joystick, my memories of 90’s arcade fighters, my love for modern brawlers such as Smash Bros., and the will to twist vs fighting through a top-down camera a la Powerstone.

I have also of course coded the whole game. This includes gameplay, simple design & art tools, user data management, online multiplayer.

Notable plugins used: Playfab for users management, Photon for realtime online multiplayer, Playmaker for stage & story events visual scripting, Unity Analytics, Unity & Google Ads.
